Entre criar a su pequeño hijo, cuidar a su temperamental madre, y manejar su carrera como abogada de primer nivel que se enfrenta a un gran escándalo de corrupción, Silvia parece estar al borde de una crisis nerviosa. Pero, ¿y si la respuesta a todo esto fuera simplemente el amor?

El cineasta colombiano Franco Lolli inauguró la Semana de la Crítica de Cannes 2019 con su segundo largometraje, este tierno y mordaz retrato familiar. Leticia, madre de Silvia (e interpretada por la propia madre de Lolli), padece un cáncer de pulmón en fase terminal. Su rechazo al tratamiento oncológico será uno de los problemas a los que su hija deberá enfrentarse, pero no el único; Silvia tiene otros frentes abiertos, como el escándalo de corrupción en el que se ve envuelta de forma involuntaria, o el bienestar de su hijo Antonio, un niño de 5 años que sufre bullying en el colegio. Franco Lolli logra capturar toda la complejidad emocional que provoca esa dispersión de conflictos con una delicadeza conmovedora. Esta precisión psicológica, cargada de matices, se apoya en un guión inteligente y muy bien construido. Pero la sensibilidad que transmite el film se debe también en gran medida a las interpretaciones que el cineasta ha logrado obtener de actores no profesionales. Litigante es cine que retrata con clarividencia la dimensión emocional de las relaciones humanas.

Between raising her young son, taking care of her ill-tempered mother and navigating her career as a top-notch lawyer dealing with a major corruption scandal, Silvia could very well be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Colombian filmmaker Franco Lolli provided the opening title for the 2019 Cannes Critics' Week with his second feature, this endearing and clever family portrait. Leticia, Silvia's mother (played by Lolli's real-life mother) has terminal lung cancer. She refuses oncological treatment which is one of the issues her daughter will have to deal with, but not the only one. Silvia has many other battles to fight, like the corruption scandal she finds herself involuntarily involved in or the wellbeing of her 5-year-old son, Antonio, who is being bullied at school. Franco Lolli manages to capture the emotional complexity caused by these various conflicts with an extremely touching attentiveness. This psychological precision, filled with nuances, is supported by a smart and well-thought-out script. But the sensitivity the film transmits is also largely due to the performances the filmmaker managed to secure from non-professional actors. Litigante is an exhilarating film that wittily portrays the emotional depth of human relationships.

Estudió cine en Montpellier, La Sorbona y en el departamento de dirección de cine de La Fémis, del cual fue el único estudiante en graduarse con honores en el año 2007. En 2011 fundó su productora, Evidencia Films. Escrita en la Residencia de la Cinéfondation del Festival de Cannes, su ópera prima, Gente de bien , se estrenó en La Semana de la Crítica de Cannes 2014. Litigante es su segundo largo.

He studied film at Montpellier, the Sorbonne and at the film directing department of La Fémis, where he was the only honors graduate of 2007. In 2011, he founded his own production company, Evidencia Films. His first feature, Gente de bien, was written during his residency at the Cannes Festival Cinéfondation and premiered during the 2014 Cannes Critics' Week. Litigante is his second feature.
