A principios de los años 90, Roberto, un chico de 18 años, perdido en la vida, deja un Perú violento para irse a Montreal a vivir con su padre, Bob Montoya, un inmigrante que huyó hace varios años del país y que ahora tiene una nueva familia canadiense. Con orgullo masculino y marcado por sus prejuicios, Bob se esfuerza en mostrarle a su hijo su mejor versión del sueño norteamericano. El reencuentro de padre e hijo quedará unido para siempre por una violencia que arrastran del país de origen y de la que no han podido escapar.

La bronca es el tercer largometraje dirigido conjuntamente por los hermanos Daniel y Diego Vega. Se trata de un drama ambientado en Montreal que echa el cierre a una trilogía sobre la figura del padre que iniciaran con la magnífica Octubre en 2010. Basada en la experiencia personal de uno de los cineastas, la película nos ofrece un sutil retrato familiar cargado de simbolismos donde la intrahistoria de tres hombres emigrados a Canadá se solapa con los momentos más violentos de su país de origen. La película evoca de esta forma esa otra violencia de la que no se habla, la del Perú de la época —que los hermanos Vega introducen con flashes documentales— que pesa como una losa sobre Roberto y lo enfrenta a la aparente placidez de un padre que cree haberla olvidado. Sin embargo, nada es lo que parece en este intenso drama protagonizado por personajes profundamente humanos.


In the early 90s, Roberto, an 18-year-old boy lost in life, leaves a violent Peru behind to live in Montreal with his father, Bob Montoya, an immigrant who fled from his country years ago and who now has a new Canadian family. With male pride and scarred by prejudice, Bob strives to show his son his best version of the North American dream. The reunion between father and son will be forever connected to a violence they drag from their home country and from which they have been unable to set themselves free.

La bronca is the third feature brothers Daniel and Diego Vega have directed together. It is a drama set in Montreal that ends a trilogy on father figures they started with the wonderful October in 2010. Based on the personal experience of one the filmmakers, the film offers us a subtle family portrait loaded with symbolisms where the personal story of three men that migrated to Canada overlaps with the most violent times of their country of origin. The film thus evokes this other unspoken violence. That of the Peru of the time—one the Vega brothers introduce with documentary flashes—that burdens Roberto and makes him face the apparent calmness of a father who believes to have forgotten all about it. However, nothing is what it seems in this intense drama starred by profoundly human characters.

Octubre fue la representante peruana para los Oscars 2011.

They have written, produced and directed three feature films together. Their first two films, October (2010) and The Mute (2013), were selected for and received awards at the Cannes Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, the Locarno Film Festival, New Directors New Films, San Sebastián and BAFICI, among others. October was the Peruvian representative at the 2011 Oscars.
