Within the conservative home of the Gusmão Portuguese family, Eurídice, 18, and Guida, 20, are two inseparable sisters that find in each other a safe space for their hopes and dreams. While Guida has a true confidant for her love affairs in her younger sister, Eurídice gets the encouragement she needs to pursue her dream of becoming a professional pianist from her spirited older sister. In a dramatic twist, their father forces them to live apart. They will have to take control of their own destinies, while never giving up hope of being reunited.

Karim Aïnouz received the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2019 Cannes Festival with his seventh feature, this suggestive, empowering and modern melodrama. A free adaptation of the novel by Martha Batalha, the film finds in her leading actresses, Carol Duarte and Julia Stockler, its main stronghold. Aïnouz updates the genre with a twist to the traditional idea of romantic passion without disregarding its tenets. Because the film revolves around the sisterly bond between two women understood as a love so powerful as that of any classic romance. The yearning with which he depicts the distance between these two sisters is so beautiful that it is difficult not to get carried away by its poetry. A magnificent and captivating melodrama for the modern age.
