En 2011 ETA anuncia el cese de su actividad armada. Una misteriosa joven deambula entre pueblos fronterizos de España y Francia, buscando cruzar la frontera y huir de su pasado. Mientras recibe la hospitalidad de los lugareños del último pueblito de Navarra, habita la cotidianeidad pesada y silenciosa de un invierno por venir, donde se condensan simbólicamente años de traumas y secretos por la violencia política. En esta espera angustiante para cruzar la frontera, la película crea con lirismo un espacio tiempo suspendido, difuso y fronterizo. Esta ópera prima del colectivo Negu explora el conflicto Vasco encarnado en el rostro de los habitantes de Zubieta, a quienes representa con sensibilidad.
EKAIN ALBITE, ADRIÁ ROCA, NICOLAU MALLOFRÉ, MIKEL IBARGUREN, NEGU COLLECTIVE Hace cuatro años, un grupo de estudiantes de la Escuela Superior de Cine y Audiovisuales de Cataluña (ESCAC) de diferentes y muy lejanas procedencias nos conocimos por primera vez. A medida que íbamos estudiando y desarrollando nuestros proyectos para la escuela, fuimos construyendo un colectivo de personas que compartimos inquietudes y puntos de vista similares a la hora de abordar esas creaciones. Nuestro primer proyecto, “Erroitz” puso la piedra inicial de un camino de creación
y de complicidad que a día de hoy sigue en construcción. En este primer proyecto trabajamos juntos por primera vez en el País Vasco y empezamos a asentar las bases de lo que a día de hoy somos. Un año más tarde iniciamos la producción de nuestro segundo proyecto, un mediometraje, rodado también en el País Vasco llamado “Uhara”. Una pieza rodada en 16mm que giraba en torno a lo jóvenes que fuimos y a toda esa energía que un día teníamos. Entre estos dos proyectos trabajamos en algunas creaciones que giraron entorno a la realidad catalana, como fue el caso de “A rabassa morta”, también rodado en 16mm. Con más complicidad, experiencia y recursos, agrandamos el colectivo y empezamos a sumar nuevos integrantes del ámbito del cine y también de más allá del entorno académico. Ahora, con el colectivo más fuerte que nunca, seguimos sumando ganas y pasión para continuar construyendo y generando proyectos que hablen de la complejidad de la existencia y de la autenticidad de la vida.
In 2011, the prolonged armed conflict in the Basque Country appears to come to an end. A young woman flees with a clear goal: to cross the border, the “muga”. She knows this will take her away from her home and roots, where she is no longer safe. During her escape, she arrives in Zubieta, a border village where ancient myths and modern conflicts seem to converge. Hidden in the attic of one of the town’s houses in the village, she begins to observe an unchanging everyday life. Time passes — a hazy, indefinite passage where days blur into nights and nights into days. Her escape becomes increasingly labyrinthine, getting completely enveloped in the dense fog…
EKAIN ALBITE, ADRIÁ ROCA, NICOLAU MALLOFRÉ, MIKEL IBARGUREN, NEGU COLLECTIVE We met 4 years ago at ESCAC, where, at the age of 18, we entered to study film. As we developed our projects for school, we built a collective of people who shared concerns and perspectives when approaching these creations. Our first project, “Erroitz,” laid the initial foundation for a path of creation and complicity that is still being built today. In this first project, we worked together for the first time in the Basque Country and began to establish the foundations of what we are today. One year later, we started the production of our second project, a short film also shot in the Basque Country called “Laiotz”. It’s a 16mm film that revolves around youthful memories, and we had the fortune to premiere it at the recent edition of the D’A Film Festival in Barcelona. Between these two projects, we worked on some creations that revolved around the Catalan reality, such as “A rabassa morta”, also shot on 16mm. With more complicity, experience, and resources, we expanded the collective and started adding new members from the film industry and beyond the academic environment. Now, with the collective stronger than ever, we continue to accumulate enthusiasm and passion to keep building and generating projects that speak to the complexity of existence and the authenticity of life. This is the case with “Negu hurbilak”, our first feature film, which will celebrate its world premiere at Locarno International Film Festival - Concorso Cineasti del presente.
