Suiza: en el invierno de 1939, Lubo, un joven jenisch (etnia nómada), artista callejero, debe hacer el servicio militar en el ejército suizo. Una vez allí, se entera de que los gendarmes se llevaron a sus hijos y que su esposa murió intentando evitarlo. Los niños fueron separados de sus padres por ser hijos de vagabundos y gitanos, de acuerdo al programa nacional de reeducación Kinder der Landstrasse: una organización regida por los principios de la eugenesia que prevaleció en Europa durante los años treinta, donde se pretendía modificar la herencia genética para “mejorar la especie”. Lubo se embarca en búsqueda de venganza de formas insospechadas.

Switzerland: in the winter of 1939, Lubo a young Jenisch (nomadic ethnicity) is to do military service in the Swiss army to defend the border. His cousin joins him and tells him that the gendarmes took his children and his wife was killed in the scuffle. They took them away from their parents because they are children of wanderers, gypsies, following the national Kinder reeducation program der Landstrasse, an organization governed by the principles of the eugenics that was rampant in Europe over the yea thirty.

GIORGIO DIRITTI Born in Bologna, Italia, 1959. Is a director, screenwriter, and producer. After starting his career collaborating with some of the most talented Italian directors, Diritti completes his first short, “Cappello da Marinaio” in 1990. The film was selected in numerous international film festivals including the Clermont- Ferrand International Short Festival. His first feature, “Il Vento fa il suo giro – The Wind Blows Round“ (2005), travels to more than 60 national and international events (among which the Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival, the BFI London Film Festival and the Filmfest Munchen), winning more than 40 awards. The film is nominated for 5 David di Donatello awards in 2008 (including Best Film, Best Debut Director, Best Producer and Best Script) and to 4 Silver Ribbons Award (Italian film journalists award). The release of the film in Italy is one of the most long-lasting of recent times, as the film is available in Italian cinemas for more than 18 months. Diritti’s second feature “L’uomo che verrà - The Man Who Will Come” (2009), premieres in the official selection of the Rome International Film Festival and wins the Grand Jury Prize as well as the Audience Award. The film is released on January 22nd 2010 and travels in festivals worldwide (such as KVIFF, BFI, Tallin Black Nights, Haifa Intl. Film Festival, Festival de Cine Europeo de Sevilla, Palm Springs Intl. Film Festival, Shanghai Intl. Film Festival) winning several prizes. In Italy “L’uomo che verrà” is awarded with 3 David di Donatello awards (Best Film, Best Producer, Best Sound) and 3 Silver Ribbons (Best Producer, Best Set Design, Best Sound). In 2013 Diritti co-produces and directs “Un giorno devi andare – There Will Come a Day”, shot in the Amazon Region and starring Jasmine Trinca. The film premieres at the Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition. Several international events follows, such as the Chicago International Film Festival, the Festival do Rio and again KVIFF and Haifa Intl. Film Festival. His latest movie, “Volevo Nascondermi – Hidden Away”, about painter Antonio Ligabue, is presented as world premiere in the Berlinale 2020 Official Competition and its lead actor Elio Germano is awarded with the Silver Bear for Best Actor. The film is also awarded as Italian Film + of the Year in 2020 at the Silver Ribbons Awards and wins the Golden Globe by the foreign press in Italy. “Volevo Nascondermi” also receives 7 David di Donatello Awards out of 13 nominations (Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor – Elio Germano, Best Cinematography, Best Hairstyle, Best Sound, Best Set Design) and is awarded by the European Film Academy with 2 EFA Excellence Awards for European Cinematography and European Costume Design.
