Fouad es un inmigrante ilegal que vive en Italia desde hace una década. Daniela proviene de la clase media alta de Apulia y arrastra una profunda soledad y problemas de adicción. Ambos se encuentran por casualidad en Umbría, y tejen un amor que les ayuda a sanar al ritmo de las estaciones y los rituales cotidianos. Pero el sentimiento de no pertenencia de Fouad y la interminable espera de un visado le llevan a la situación crítica de elegir entre vivir como ilegal o regresar al lugar de origen. Casablanca aborda la inmigración a través de una historia de amor, devolviéndole a sus personajes la complejidad y profundidad que la marginalidad obstruye.
ADRIANO VALERIO Es un director italiano que vive en París desde hace más de 20 años. Su cortometraje 37°4 S recibió una Mención Especial en el Festival de Cine de Cannes en 2013 y ganó el David di Donatello en 2014. Su primer largometraje, BANAT: THE JOURNEY, fue presentado en la Semana Internacional de la Crítica de Venecia en 2015 y nominado al David di Donatello y también a los Globos de Oro a la Mejor Ópera Prima. Además ha sido seleccionado en más de 70 festivales internacionales recibiendo varios premios, entre ellos el Premio Corso Salani. En 2017, su cortometraje MON AMOUR MON AMI fue presentado en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Venecia, en la sección Orizzonti, y luego en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Toronto. Su cortometraje documental LES AIGLES DE CARTHAGE fue el cortometraje inaugural de la Semana Internacional de la Crítica de Venecia. Su cortometraje THE NIGHTWALK fue galardonado con el Prix Canal+ en el Festival de Cine de Clermont-Ferrand en 2021 y seleccionado para los Premios César en 2022. Su último cortometraje, CALCUTTA 8:40 AM, fue presentado en la Festa del Cinema di Roma - Alice nella Città en 2023 y ganó el Nastro D'Argento en 2023. CASABLANCA es su primer largometraje documental y actualmente Adriano está desarrollando dos largometrajes más, uno en Italia y otro en Francia.
Fouad, a Moroccan clandestine living in Italy for years, and Daniela, a former drug-addict from Apulia’s upper middle-class, find each other by chance in Umbria. The meeting is the beginning of a love that helps them heal. But Fouad’s feeling of not belonging and the interminable wait for a visa are pushing him to the brink: will he stay in Umbria or go back to Casablanca, even if it means never to return?
ADRIANO VALERIO Is an Italian director living in Paris for over 20 years. His short film 37°4 S received a Special Mention at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 and won the David di Donatello in 2014. His debut feature BANAT – THE JOURNEY was presented at the Venice International Critics' Week of Venice in 2015 and was nominated for the David di Donatello and the Golden Globes for Best Debut Film and has been selected in more than 70 international festivals, receiving various awards including the Corso Salani Award. In 2017, his short film MON AMOUR, MON AMI was presented at the Venice International Film Festival in the Orizzonti section, then at the Toronto International Film Festival. His short documentary LES AIGLES DE CARTHAGE was the opening short film at the International Critics' Week of Venice. His short film THE NIGHTWALK has been awarded with the Prix Canal+ at Clermont-Ferrand Film festival in 2021 and selected for the César Awards in 2022. His last short film CALCUTTA 8:40AM was presented at Festa del Cinema di Roma - Alice nella Città in 2023 and won the Nastro D’Argento in 2023. CASABLANCA marks his first feature-length documentary, and Adriano is now developing two feature films, one in Italy and one in France.
