Un cineasta decide recuperar el camino de la trashumancia que hacían los pastores de su pueblo a las montañas, pero no encuentra a ningún testigo vivo que le indique la ruta exacta. Su idea es además filmarlo con la vieja cámara súper-8 de su familia, pero descubre que, tras 41 años sin usarse, ya no graba el sonido. La senda olvidada y la cámara muda se convertirán, junto a un burro llamado Paolo, en los protagonistas de un viaje lleno de recuerdos, interrogantes y silencio.

Su ópera prima Emak Bakia baita (2012, sobre la búsqueda de la casa en la costa vasca donde Man Ray rodó su película Emak Bakia) se proyectó en BAFICI, Edimburgo, Telluride, San Sebastián, Shanghái, Yamagata, DocLisboa, San Francisco y Denver International Film Festivals, fue traducida a 16 idiomas y ganó 17 premios. Su segundo largometraje Zumiriki (2028, la historia de una isla sumergida en el río de su infancia) se estrenó en Orizzonti Mostra de Venezia y ganó el premio a la mejor película de no ficción en el Festival de Cine Europeo de Sevilla.
Basque curator-director Oskar Alegría found his father's Super-8 camera, two reels of unused film, and two pieces of footage in storage, intact after 41 years. One home movie captured a long-ago family New Year's party, and is cut off before Alegría's grandfather shares a wish for the upcoming year. Another features Alegría's dad. To weave these fragments of the past together, the filmmaker travels with Paolo, an adorable donkey, down the country roads his father once traversed, recording the last vestiges of Basque country life. The result is a deeply personal, mostly silent essay on the passage of time.

His first film Emak Bakia baita (2012, about the search for the house in the Basque coast where Man Ray shot his Emak Bakia film) was shown in BAFICI, Edimburgh, Telluride, San Sebastian, Shangài, Yamagata, DocLisboa, San Francisco and Denver Film Festivals, has been translated into 16 languages and won 17 awards. His second feature Zumiriki (2028, the story of a sumerged island in the river of his childhood) was premiered at Orizzonti Mostra de Venezia and won the best non fiction film award in Seville European Film Festival.
